How to choose an AI football session planner

Pick the one that fits your age group and your squad, shows the practice as well as describing it, and costs what you are happy to pay in a normal month.

Five things to check

  1. 1. Does the plan fit the age group?

A session for under-8s and one for under-14s differ in more than the numbers. Look for plans that change the length of activities, the size of the area and the coaching points with age, not just the title.

FootballGPT builds the plan around the age group, format and player count you give it, and sets out warm-up, main activities, progressions and cool-down.

  2. 2. Does it know your squad?

Look for a plan that uses your player count and the positions you have available.

FootballGPT uses your team set-up, such as age group, format, formation and the shape of your squad by position, so the plan is built for your team.

  3. 3. Does it show the practice, or only describe it?

Describing a practice in words and getting it right on the pitch are different jobs. A diagram saves the explaining.

FootballGPT turns a practice into an animated pitch diagram you can play, pause and show your players.

  4. 4. Does it remember your team between sessions?

If the tool forgets your team, you have to repeat the details before it can plan for them.

FootballGPT Pro remembers your coaching context, so a new plan starts from your team rather than a blank page.

  5. 5. What does it cost after the free allowance?

Free tiers are limited and change often. Work out what you would pay in a normal month.

What a plan looks like

This is the start of a real FootballGPT answer, copied word for word on 2 October 2026, with only the headings tidied. We asked: “Plan a 60 minute session for my under-12s on passing and moving in small groups. I have 14 players and half a pitch.” The answer has five parts; these are the first two.

Warm-up: Dynamic Passing Circles (10 minutes)

Create two 10x10 yard squares. Divide your 14 players into two groups of 7. Each group has two balls. Players jog dynamically around their square. On your call, they form a circle and start passing one ball with one touch, then two touches. Introduce the second ball. Keep them moving, keep them scanning.

  • Scan constantly before receiving the ball.
  • Accuracy and weight of the pass.
  • Move to support after you pass the ball.

Technical practice: Triangle Passing & Moving (15 minutes)

Set up three small triangles of cones (approx. 5x5x5 yards). Divide players into three groups: two groups of 5, one group of 4. Each group has one ball per triangle. Players pass the ball around the triangle. After passing, they must move to another cone in the triangle to receive the next pass. Introduce conditions: two-touch, then one-touch. Emphasise sharp, accurate passes and intelligent movement.

  • "Help your teammate" with the weight of the pass.
  • "Play it to where they're going", not where they are.
  • Open body shape to receive and see the next pass.
  • Communication for who wants the ball.

A second opinion

The Football Coaching Directory keeps its own A-to-Z guide to these tools, with fuller listings. The directory is built by the same person who makes FootballGPT, and the guide says so.
